Was this your first time visited NOLA?
Nope. We were there about a year ago for the first time… which actually got us to start talking about the LS…but that’s a whole other conversation.
Was this your first time at Naughty in Nawlins?
Yes
Was this your first large lifestyle event (e.g. Cruise, hotel takeover, resort)
Yes
What were you most afraid of when visiting NIN 2019
That we would not be able to handle some big “issue” or communication problem because there was just so much going on and we wouldn’t be able to get away.
What was your highlight of the event?
Can he say all of Friday? We got to sit down with an amazing couple for lunch on Friday, then we hosted a board game meet up and he just enjoyed sharing that relaxing moment with everyone. The confidence from these two events spilled over into the dancing theme night and he was surrounded by all sorts of hot couples and nerd-tastic references.
Her highlight was the feeling of belonging and confidence throughout the event. Easy conversation with like-minded individuals, lots of dancing with sexy couples, and flirting with people she would have previously considered to be out of reach made for a great experience.
What was the lowlight and could be improved?
We didn’t take enough time for ourselves and by Saturday it was clear that we were just burnt out. We both had our issues and tried to talk a little and press through them but ultimately, we should have just stepped away sooner and maybe for longer. Next time we do a large event we are going to schedule time for ourselves just like we would plan dinner or going to a class. We both need that time to recharge and we think we can get a lot more out of the interactions with others if we are our best selves.
Did you and your partner communicate well at NIN? What could be improved if anything?
As part of our discussion pre-trip, we decided that we were going to over share and over communicate about everything. It was hard getting used to at first since it seemed like one of us was always having an issue with something, but we quickly realized that all of these issues were minor and we were able to accept the comfort that we didn’t have to second guess what the other was thinking.
What was your favourite theme night or party?
Space Night for sure! But masquerade was a close second.
If you could give a piece of advice for people wanting to go to NIN but are unsure, what would it be?
A lot of people comment about how it is overwhelming. While there are a lot of people, we looked at it more as an opportunity. We knew we could always find or make the experience we wanted. If we didn’t want to dance, there would be people in the lobby. If we didn’t want to go to a bar take over, we could find a couple for lunch etc. Plus, it is SO easy just to walk a block and get away. Try to avoid FOMO by accepting that it’s literally impossible to do everything and make it the trip you want.
Will you be back in 2020?
No, but that’s mostly because the dates don’t work.

The weekend certainly had its ups and downs and we knew going in that it was going to test us in ways that we couldn’t have seen ahead of time. We did our best to try to chronicle the missteps as they happened so that, while we look back on the event fondly, we know there are ways to make it better.
The biggest thing that came out of it is the reaffirmation that you can make this whole LS thing whatever you want it to be and there are others out there who want the same thing. We were in the biggest hotel takeover, and while there was a raging foam party, hotel room orgies, play rooms, dungeons, workshops and so much more going on, we were able to gather a small group to play board games in a hallway…and we all had a blast. It wasn’t for everyone, but it was for us it served as a reaffirmation that you can make this whole LS thing whatever you want it to be and there are others out there who want the same thing

We were reminded that everyone can do their LS experience their own way and yet, somehow, there are others out there, somewhere, that are doing it the same way.
This has given us even more confidence that we can be who we are, and we will meet others who we connect with in the ways that we want.
